New Delhi, Sep 12 (IANS) Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari has defended Rahul Gandhi, who has come under fire from the BJP for his statement on reservation in the US.
RJD spokesperson said, “Rahul Gandhi’s statement is being presented in a distorted manner. The truth is that Congress, ‘India’ alliance and Rahul Gandhi are in favour of reservation. We have always wanted that the downtrodden people of the society should prosper by taking the help of reservation, but at present some people are trying to present Rahul Gandhi’s statement in a wrong way, which cannot be accepted at any cost.”
He further said, “I want to make one thing clear that whenever the Modi government at the center tried to abolish reservation, the first person to raise voice was none other than the ‘India’ alliance and Rahul Gandhi. The meaning and context of what Rahul Gandhi said was something else, but his statement is being presented in some other context, which cannot be accepted at any cost. It is the people of BJP who have the intention of abolishing reservation.”
He said, “Rahul Gandhi is a supporter of reservation, he has always been fighting for it. Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, all of them have been fighting for reservation together and will continue to do so. In such a situation, those who are trying to misrepresent Rahul Gandhi’s statement, please do not do so. If they do so, they will be misguided.”
Let us tell you that Rahul Gandhi spoke to the students about reservation at Georgetown University on Tuesday. During this, he was asked when will reservation be abolished? On this he said that when the right time comes, we will end it, but I think the present time is not right for this.
Apart from BJP, other Dalit organizations also targeted Congress on this statement of Rahul. Rahul is being accused of being against reservation.
At the same time, Rahul also gave clarification on the political uproar caused by his statement. He said, “He is not against reservation. His statement is being presented in a wrong way.”
