Maharashtra Politics: The Samajwadi Party has been miffed over Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena’s stand on the Babri Masjid demolition and has decided to withdraw support from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. Maharashtra Samajwadi Party chief Abu Azmi has said that his party will withdraw its support from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, mainly due to disagreement over Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena comments regarding the Babri Masjid demolition.
SP has two MLAs in the Maharashtra Assembly – Abu Azmi, who represents Mankhurd-Shivajinagar in Mumbai, and Raees Shaikh, who has been elected from Bhiwandi East in Thane district.
Abu Azmi said, “We are neither part of the ruling Mahayuti nor the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, we will ask the Assembly Speaker and the Maharashtra Legislature Secretariat to allot separate seats for both of us.” Azmi said – “There was no coordination in the MVA during seat sharing and even in the subsequent campaign, they never called us for meetings, they did not even call us for joint rallies.”
Abu Azmi said, “Thackeray in an internal meeting has asked his leaders and party workers to aggressively pursue the Hindutva agenda ahead of the municipal elections. On December 6, the party took to social media in favor of the Babri Masjid demolition. Posted a message. How can this be tolerated?”
Actually, SP is furious because of an ex-post of Thackeray’s personal assistant and MLC Milind Narvekar praising the demolition of Babri Masjid. The post contained pictures of late Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and MLC Milind Narvekar praising the demolition of Babri Masjid. Abu Azmi said such posts hurt sentiments and go against the values of unity and respect for all communities. We are here to promote harmony, not divide people.
