Satyapal malik cbi chargesheet: Sometimes someone thought that the person who had reported an open corruption to the Prime Minister sitting on the highest throne of power, will become accused of corruption after a few years? The person who himself canceled the tender, rejected the bribe and disclosed it from the public platform, has now become the main accused in the CBI charge sheet. This is the story of Satyapal Malik, who was once the trusted governor of the BJP and is now surrounded in a case that has raised serious questions on the transparency and accountability of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The soul of democracy in the country is safe as long as the question is heard and accountability is ensured. But if the questioner is made the accused, then it is an indication that the soul of democracy is slowly dying. This is the most dangerous and politically explosive truth of this whole case.
When Satyapal Malik told PM the matter of bribery
The year 2021 is when the then Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik sensationally claimed in a public meeting that he was offered a bribe of Rs 150-150 crore in exchange for two tenders while being a governor. He clearly stated that this offer was made in exchange for approval on two files related to a big industrialist and one former minister. Malik also told that he had informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about this corruption and after that the tender himself was canceled. After this statement, there was a stir in the political corridors. For the first time, a sitting governor was informing the Prime Minister about corruption. This was not normal, and so it was expected that the PMO would conduct an inquiry after this revelation, some action would be taken, so that the message will be sent that the country’s most powerful chair holds zero tolerance on corruption but nothing happened. There is no investigation, no inquiry, no press briefing. This silence became the biggest and dangerous link of this story.
Now the same person becomes accused
On 22 May 2025, the CBI filed a charge sheet against Satyapal Malik, in which he was accused of alleged corruption in the Kiru Hydropower Project of Rs 2,200 crore. This was the same project whose tender process was questioned by Malik, claimed to stop it and informed the Prime Minister. According to the charge sheet, Malik’s role is under suspicion as the project was approved during his tenure. While Malik claims that he himself canceled the tender and after his transfer, the tender was re -passed from someone else’s signature. Now the question arises that if Malik did not take bribe, canceled the tender, then why was he included in the charge sheet? Is this a revenge for any political disagreement? Or is this message that this will be the result of those who speak against the government?
Did PMO hide information?
This case is not limited to Malik’s allegations just. The biggest question is that if the Prime Minister was informed about this corruption, what did he do? Did they ask the concerned agencies to investigate it? Is there any document of Malik’s complaint in PMO’s records? If it is, why is it not being made public? If the PMO was aware of the bribe and no action was taken in spite of this, it is not just negligence but a sign of institutional corruption. This causes the image of the Modi government, in which they talk about ‘neither eat, nor eat’. Now the public is asking “If the PMO knew everything, then why remained silent?”
Punishment to hit power?
Satyapal Malik is not a common leader. He was the nominated Governor of the Central Government, holding constitutional positions in many states. But when he took favor to the farmers in the farmers’ movement, when they made open statements in support of the women wrestlers, when they questioned the government’s accountability regarding the Pulwama attack – since then they went on to become the eye of the eye of power. Now that they are ill, hospitalized, and are also financially struggling, at such a time it is not a coincidence to accuse them of corruption.
When honesty becomes the biggest crime
Malik also claims that he does not have wealth, he is undergoing treatment in a government hospital and lives in a room house. Now the question arises that if he had joined the scam of 2,200 crores, would he have been in such a situation even today? Or it proves that today’s India has reached the point where the honest person is first put in the dock. The one who turns down the bribe becomes the accused – what will be a bigger political satire than this?
Question on the role of CBI also
Satyapal Malik’s allegation is also worth noting that the investigating agency only targeted him, but did not interrogate the corporates or leaders whose names came under bribery charges. Is this a unilateral investigation? Has the CBI now become a tool for the political fight of power? The Supreme Court has already called the CBI a ‘parrot of the cage’, and this is seen to prove its working style in this case.
Silence became the biggest statement
Prime Minister Modi’s silence has become the biggest ‘political statement’ in this entire episode. Neither came a statement in 2021, nor now that the charge sheet has been filed. Many times there is no message greater than silence. This silence suggests that either the government has nothing to say, or she wants to teach a lesson to the person who speaks the truth. The foundation of democracy in India can remain strong only when power is held accountable. But if a person, who exposes the dirt of the system, is dragged into the dirt, then it is a danger bell for the democratic soul of the country.
A system vs a man
Satyapal Malik is standing alone today in front of a system that made him a governor, and now the same system is calling him a scamster. But in this whole incident, there is a big lesson for the common citizen of the country who will tell the truth, he will get stuck. The one who remains silent will remain. If this policy is made in a democracy like India, then neither transparency nor honesty, nor hope.
