Scuffle in Parliament: Police will record statements of two injured MPs, will call Rahul for questioning

A day after a case was registered against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with the scuffle that broke out in the Parliament complex, police are likely to record the statements of the two injured MPs on Friday and may also call the opposition leader for questioning, sources said.

He said that Delhi Police can also write a letter to the Parliament Secretariat and ask for CCTV footage of the area where the alleged incident took place. An officer said that senior police officers may also consider handing over the case from the local police to the crime branch.

Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 117 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 125 (act endangering the life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force) of the Indian Justice Code at Sansad Marg police station on Thursday. A case was registered under sections 351 (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention).

The case against Gandhi was registered just hours after the complaint was filed by the BJP. The complaint accuses him of “assault and instigation” during the fight. Two BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were injured in this fight.

According to a police source, officials may call Rahul Gandhi for questioning and also record statements of other MPs who witnessed the incident.

The source said a team of police officers may also meet Sarangi and Rajput at the hospital and record their statements for further investigation. He informed that the report of his medical certificate will be collected.

On Thursday, BJP MP Hemang Joshi, along with party colleagues Anurag Thakur and Bansuri Swaraj, went to Sansad Marg police station and lodged a complaint.

The Congress strongly rejected the claim, alleging that BJP MPs pushed party president Mallikarjun Kharge and “physically abused” Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

Congress has also filed a complaint in this matter. A delegation of Congress MPs, including Digvijay Singh, Mukul Wasnik, Rajeev Shukla and Pramod Tiwari, went to the police station and lodged a complaint, an official said.
