Bengaluru, Sep 9 (IANS) The Karnataka High Court on Monday deferred till September 12 the hearing on the bail plea of former Janata Dal (S) MP Prajwal Revanna, accused in the sex video case.
The High Court bench headed by Justice M. Nagaprasanna said that the order for in-camera hearing would be obtained from the Chief Justice and the lawyers would be informed in this regard.
The bail plea was filed by the victim in connection with the case registered at Holenarasipura police station.
The state government had requested the court to conduct an in-camera hearing to ensure the privacy of the victims. The bench said it would verify the request.
Senior advocate Prabhulinga Navadgi, appearing for Prajwal Revanna, said he has not been served the chargesheet by the prosecution yet. He demanded that it should be made available to him.
“The charge sheet will be made available to you after the trial court considers cognizance”, the bench responded.
Advocate Prabhulinga Navadgi argued that filing a rape case against his client was improper. Rape was not initially alleged in the complaint.
He said the rape allegation is being leveled during the investigation.
Prajwal is accused of sexually assaulting his 47-year-old maid and later sending obscene videos to the victim’s daughter and threatening to meet the same fate with her daughter.
Prajwal Revanna was arrested at the Bengaluru International Airport on the morning of May 30 when he was returning from Germany along with his grandfather and former Prime Minister HD Devegowda and uncle HD Kumaraswamy.
His father and Janata Dal (S) MLA HD Revanna and mother Bhavani Revanna were jailed in the kidnapping and rape case linked to the sex video scandal and are currently out on bail.
His younger brother, JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna, was jailed for allegedly sexually harassing male party workers.
