New Delhi, 20 April (IANS). Bangladesh’s deployed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s difficulties seem to be increasing. A formal request has been sent to Interpol in this regard by Bangladesh Police. Apart from Sheikh Hasina, similar action is being taken against 11 other persons. All of them are accused of conspiring to spread instability in Bangladesh and were involved in anti -national activities.
The Dhaka Tribune has confirmed this by quoting Assistant Inspector General (Media) Inamul Haque Sagar at the Police Headquarters of the country. Haq said that the National Bureau (NCB) of Bangladesh Police has requested Interpol to issue a red corner notice. He said, “This application has been filed in relation to those allegations, which have been revealed during the investigation or in the ongoing case.”
The Bangladesh Police has recently registered a case against Sheikh Hasina and others for inciting civil war and conspiring to remove the interim administration led by Mohammad Yunus.
Inamul Haque Sagar said that this request has been made on the basis of appeals received from courts, government prosecutors and investigative agencies.
He said that help is taken from Interpol on the basis of allegations made during the investigation process or in order to hear a case. If an accused is abroad and its whereabouts are revealed, that information is sent to Interpol, so that the accused can be caught in the concerned country. Sagar also clarified that this request made for red notice is still under process and the approval of Interpol is being awaited.
It is worth noting that earlier in November 2024, the Chief Prosecutor Office of the International Crime Tribunal requested the police headquarters to seek the help of Interpol to catch Sheikh Hasina and other absconding persons. Sheikh Hasina had to leave Bangladesh and come to India on August 5 last year, when the students came out on the road, protesting on a large scale.
Due to these demonstrations, Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government, which has been running for 16 years, was out of power. Currently many of his associate leaders are either in jail or have taken shelter in other countries. Sheikh Hasina is in touch with party workers from time to time and has been assuring her to return to power again.
