Patna, Sep 1 (IANS) Former Bihar minister Shyam Rajak on Sunday joined the Janata Dal (United). He had resigned from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on August 22 last month. He was the national general secretary of the party.
JDU’s acting national president Sanjay Kumar Jha gave him party membership.
Shyam Rajak was earlier also in JDU. But, he later joined RJD. However, he resigned from the party after staying in RJD for some time.
After joining JDU, Shyam Rajak said, “I have started working for the party in view of the upcoming assembly elections and I hope to contest from the Phulwari Sharif seat in the upcoming elections to be held in 2025.”
Shyam Rajak accused RJD of becoming a party of one family. He said, “I am not fond of chess, only pawns move there, no worker has any say there. I will work under whatever the party (JDU) decides.”
Let us tell you that Shyam Rajak was the Energy Minister in the RJD-Congress government in Bihar. He joined RJD before the last Bihar Assembly elections in the year 2020. He was hopeful that he would contest from the Phulwari Sharif assembly seat. But, under the seat sharing in the alliance, the Phulwari Sharif seat was given to CPI ML.
Shyam Rajak has been an MLA six times and is considered to have considerable influence in the Phulwari area. While in RJD, he suffered a major setback in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He wanted to contest from either Samastipur or Jamui parliamentary seat, but he was not fielded from here. Due to all these reasons, due to displeasure with RJD, he decided to leave the party and joined JDU. He has worked with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for a long time.
