Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Tuesday that people are getting angry due to him becoming the Chief Minister for the second time. He credited the Indian Constitution for giving him the opportunity to hold this prestigious post twice.
Addressing the people on Indian Constitution Day at Ambedkar Bhawan, Siddaramaiah said, “I have become the Chief Minister because of the Indian Constitution. Had the Constitution not been there, this would not have been possible.” He said, “Some people are angry with me becoming Chief Minister for the second time. They are not able to tolerate it. What to do?”
The CM said that as long as the public’s support is with him, he has no reason to bow down. Siddaramaiah said, “I will not be afraid because you are with me. I have said on many occasions that as long as the public’s blessings are with me, I will not bow down.”
He also targeted Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and called it anti-constitutional. The Chief Minister said, “There are opponents of the Constitution in our country. We should be careful about this. Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (Hindu thinker) and Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar, the second president of the RSS, had also opposed the implementation of the Constitution. BJP’s parent party The RSS has also opposed the implementation of our Constitution.”
Siddaramaiah said that before the implementation of Babasaheb’s Constitution, a barbaric system of exploiting human beings was in place in India with discrimination, inequality and unwritten Manusmriti practices opposing the education of Dalits and women. He also warned that the opponents of the Constitution were again trying to invoke ‘Manusmriti’.
