South Korea: Prime Minister appeals for collective efforts to keep the country united

Seoul, December 10 (IANS). South Korean Prime Minister Han Duk-soo has appealed to political leaders and civil society to strive to stabilize state affairs and unify the country amid the political turmoil created by President Yun Suk Yeol’s martial law declaration. The dilemma can be resolved.

Prime Minister Han made the remarks during the first cabinet meeting held after the President declared martial law last Tuesday and lifted it a few hours later, Yonhap news agency reported. The country was shocked by this announcement of the President and after this his political future became uncertain.

Prime Minister Han said, “The government will do its best to stabilize the state’s affairs as soon as possible, and this will be completely in accordance with the public’s wishes.”

President Yoon is facing increasing calls for his resignation. A travel ban was imposed on him on Monday as authorities launched an investigation against him on treason and other charges related to the imposition of martial law.
