Sol, 12 June (IANS). South Korean President Li J-Mayang pledged to restore the talks channel to reduce tension with North Korea. The statement came a day after the loudspeaker stopped broadcast against North Korea, which is being seen as a solid step before reducing stress.
In his speech on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the 2000 Inter-Corean Summit, South Korean President Lee J-Mayang said that he would “prevent tired enmity” with North Korea and resume inter-curios talks and cooperation.
Lee said, “We will restore the crisis management system as soon as possible, which can prevent accidental clashes and prevent stress from increasing.”
Nevertheless, it is yet to be seen how North Korea will react to Lee’s dialogue proposal, as Pyongyang is very little interested in interacting with Seoul or Washington amidst growing relationships with Russia.
“I will make every effort to promote peace, co-existence and prosperity in the Korean peninsula,” Lee said in a speech on behalf of the President’s political affairs secretary Wu Song-Ho during a memorial ceremony.
According to a report by the Yonhap news agency, Lee praised the June 15 manifesto signed by former South Korean President Kim De-Jung and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il during the summit, describing it as a milestone, which laid the foundation of peace and resolved to maintain the spirit of historical agreement.
South Korea’s Joint Chief of Staff said, “There was no area on Thursday where loudspeakers of North Korea were detected. They are closely monitoring the activities related to North Korea.”
A military officer, on the condition of anonymity, said that North Korea’s loud voices were last heard late Wednesday in the western border area.
According to the Yonhap news agency, on Wednesday, President Lee ordered the suspension of loudspeakers targeting North Korea to reduce tension and restore confidence.
On Lee’s orders, the army has stopped broadcasting loudspeakers in the border areas from 2 pm on Wednesday.
