New Delhi, September 15 (IANS). Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is the first state in India where many big decisions were taken, from Uniform Civil Code, Anti-Copying Law, which established Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami as a powerful leader at the national level. In the results of this year’s Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s victory on all five seats in Uttarakhand was somewhere due to the efficient leadership of Pushkar Singh Dhami.
In the last few years, amid political turmoil, Pushkar Singh Dhami has emerged as the most trusted face of the BJP in Uttarakhand. Clean-image, soft-spoken Pushkar Singh Dhami is popular not only among the ruling party but also among the opposition leaders. Born on 16 September 1975 in Tundi village of Pithoragarh, the border of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami is filled with the spirit of nationalism, service and patriotism as a son of a soldier.
Pushkar Singh Dhami, who was associated with Scout Guide, NCC, NSS since childhood, decided to move forward in social work. Pushkar Singh Dhami joined Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad with the goal of providing rights and upliftment to students. Dhami, who united the students of Lucknow University and struggled continuously, not only got them their rights but also played an important role in the running of the education system.
A glimpse of Pushkar Singh Dhami’s efficient leadership was visible from student life itself. Somewhere the objective of working in the field of social service played a role in bringing Pushkar Singh Dhami into politics. He worked in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad from the district to the state level from 1990 to 1999. He also played a major role as the convener and director in the national conference of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad held in Lucknow.
Pushkar Singh Dhami, who learned many leadership qualities from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), faced many ups and downs in his life. He did not give up and kept moving forward on the path of politics. Pushkar Singh Dhami’s career as a skilled politician started after the formation of Uttarakhand. After Uttarakhand became a separate state, he did a great job as an advisor to the then Chief Minister and proved his worth.
As the state president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), he toured the entire state between 2002 and 2008 and organised huge rallies and conferences with unemployed youth. The result of this struggle was that the then state government decided to give 70 percent reservation to local youth in the state’s industries. On 11 January 2005, he organised a historic rally by gheraoing the Vidhan Sabha.
This display of youth power is still remembered as a milestone in the politics of Uttarakhand. Pushkar Singh Dhami achieved great success while working as the Vice President of the Urban Development Monitoring Council from 2010 to 2012. He reached the Assembly by winning the Khatima seat in the 2012 assembly elections and emerged as the voice of the people. He was elected MLA for the second time in 2017.
The year 2021 was full of turmoil for the politics of Uttarakhand. Tirath Singh Rawat resigned from the post of Chief Minister. Discussions started regarding the new Chief Minister. The BJP high command expressed confidence in Pushkar Singh Dhami and approved his name as the Chief Minister. After this, on 3 July 2021, Dhami took oath as the tenth Chief Minister of the state. BJP also fought the 2022 assembly elections under the leadership of Dhami.
In this election, the BJP again formed the government in Uttarakhand, setting aside all the myths. At the same time, Pushkar Singh Dhami had to face defeat. Despite this, the central leadership had faith in him and a decision was taken on his name as the Chief Minister. After this, Pushkar Singh Dhami succeeded in proving his political foresight and ability by winning the by-election from Champawat assembly seat.
