New Delhi, Sep 18 (IANS) The Supreme Court Collegium on Tuesday made fresh recommendations to the Central government for the appointment of Chief Justices of the High Courts of Meghalaya; Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh; Madhya Pradesh; and Himachal Pradesh.

The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has recommended that Justice Indra Prasanna Mukherjee be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.

Justice Mukherjee, the second most senior judge of the Calcutta High Court, was appointed as a judge in May 2009.

The Supreme Court Collegium has also recommended the appointment of Justice Tashi Rabstan as the Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. Earlier, it had recommended the appointment of Justice Rabstan as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.

Justice Rabstan is the second most senior judge of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. He was appointed as a judge in March 2013.

The Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait as the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Justice Kait was appointed as a judge in September 2008. He is the second senior-most judge of the Delhi High Court and ranks fifth in the all-India seniority list of high court judges, including chief justices.

Besides, the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice G.S. Sandhawalia as the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court on the retirement of Justice Rajiv Shakdher on October 18 this year.

Justice Sandhawalia was appointed as a judge in September 2011. He is the second senior-most judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium has said that its latest proposal will not affect the earlier recommendations made with respect to Justices Manmohan, Rajiv Shakdher, Nitin Madhukar Jamdar and K.R. Sriram.
