Chennai, 23 March (IANS). Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that Tamil Nadu has emerged as one of the biggest beneficiaries of the production-Link incentive (PLI) scheme.
The state has also received an important part in projects in electronics and automobile sectors.
Speaking at an event organized by the Chennai Citizen Forum, Finance Minister Sitharaman dismissed all the claims that the central government has ignored Tamil Nadu in terms of funding.
He said that many big projects have been announced in the state.
The Finance Minister said, “Tamil Nadu is the largest beneficiary of PLI scheme in electronics, electronic parts and automobiles.”
The Union Minister said that Tamil Nadu has earned the most approval under the PLI scheme in electronics, electronic parts and automobiles in the country.
The Union Minister said, “Seven of the 27 companies that have been approved by the Center are from Tamil Nadu.”
According to Finance Minister Sitharaman, about 25 percent of the companies benefiting from the PLI scheme are located in the state.
The Finance Minister also stated that Tamil Nadu is home to one of the two major electronic parts manufacturing clusters of India, while the other is located in Gujarat.
Finance Minister Sitharaman further stated that Tamil Nadu is the second largest recipient in the Automobile and Auto Component construction in the incentive.
Finance Minister Sitharaman said, “46 of the 82 applications approved under the PALI scheme for the automobile sector are from Tamil Nadu. Four companies of the state have been approved under the PLI scheme for the construction of advance chemistry cell battery.”
The Finance Minister said, “The country’s first green hydrogen hub port is being planned in Tuticorin with the help of the Center.”
Talking about the development of infrastructure development in the state, he said that about 1,303 km of new railway lines have been added in the state.
