The MK Stalin government of Tamil Nadu has replaced the Tamil letter ‘Ru’, a symbol of the rupee for the Indian currency, in the state budget logo amid a growing language dispute between the state and the central government.
The symbol of Indian currency was ₹ in the previous logo of the budget of 2024-25. The budget of 2025-26 is to be introduced in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on 14 March.
The CM of Tamil Nadu released a video on Thursday in which the logo was shown for the budget of 2025-26 and in this logo, the symbol of the national currency was replaced by the Tamil alphabet ‘Ru’.
The National Education Policy (NEP), there is a conflict between the state government and the central government over the proposed Tri-Language formula in 2020.
BJP’s Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai criticized this “silly” step of the state government, saying that the son of a Tamil and former DMK MLA has designed a symbol of the rupee.
K Annamalai said, “The DMK government’s state budget will replace the insignia of Rs 2025-26, which was adopted by the whole of India and included in our currency. Thiru Udaya Kumar, who designed the insignia, is the son of the former MLA of DMK. How foolish can you be, Thiru MK Stalin?”
Earlier on Wednesday, MK Stalin launched a scathing attack on the central government, a “saffronisation policy” aimed at promoting the National Education Policy (NEP) as a “saffronisation policy” with the aim of promoting Hindi, alleging that the policy threatens to destroy Tamil Nadu’s education system.
CM Stalin said in Thiruvallur, “The National Education Policy is not a education policy, it is a policy of saffronisation. This policy was not made for the development of India but for the development of Hindi. We are opposing this policy as it will completely destroy the education system of Tamil Nadu.”
Stalin gave the state NEP on the central government. Accused of stopping funds to force to accept.
He said, “We are asking for a share in you, which we have paid by our efforts. What is the problem in this? Is it appropriate to threaten without issuing funds for the welfare of 43 lakh schools? Since we have not accepted NEP, they are refusing to release money for Tamil Nadu. If this scheme brings everyone under education, we would welcome it. But what are the people who are such NEPs? This policy is like this and that is why we are opposing it. “
He said, “The focal point of controversy is the Tri-Language Formula of NEP, which Tamil Nadu is afraid that it will impose Hindi on the state. Stalin argued that the policy gives priority to Hindi on regional languages, causing damage to the autonomy and linguistic diversity of the state.”
