Ooty (Tamil Nadu), 27 April (IANS). Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) has become the basis of Modi government’s commitment to obtain universal health coverage (UHC). The scheme has inspired many ‘volunteers’ to spread awareness among the general public about this gamechanger scheme, especially among those who remain out of its scope.
In Ooty, Tamil Nadu, Professor Dr. Uma Mallen has taken the initiative to educate and encourage the villagers to enroll for the Ayushman Bharat Card, so that they can become registered beneficiaries of the scheme.
They are also getting praise and appreciation from people to educate about medical insurance cards in Nilgiri district. Under the scheme, every eligible family gets a cover of five lakh rupees annually.
Nilgiri is a mountainous region where there are many villages where there is a lack of basic facilities. Dr. Uma Mallen, the founder president of the Rise Foundation, has taken the initiative to promote the welfare schemes of the government among the people. His foundation gives people information about the central government’s schemes, distributes medical insurance cards and also creates awareness about currency bank loan and educational loan for school students. She also visits tribal villages in Nilgiri district to raise awareness about the central government’s schemes.
Professor Mallen is promoting environmental protection by distributing saplings to the villagers and encouraging them to ‘a tree mother’s name’. She is also spreading awareness about the 100 -day employment scheme of the Central Government, which aims to provide employment opportunities to rural people and improve water resources.
It is noteworthy that the Ayushman Bharat scheme was launched by the Modi government on 23 September 2018. With the ambitious target of covering more than 12 crore families or about 55 crore persons, PM-JAY has become the world’s largest health insurance scheme, providing a cover of up to five lakh rupees per family per family annually. It also includes private hospitals along with government.
