Telangana tunnel accident: Rescue operation continues for 15th day

The rescue operations continued rapidly on Saturday inside the tunnel ‘Srisalam Left Bank Canal (SLBC)’ in Telangana and the dogs have identified two places where a person is expected to be trapped.

Rescuers from places identified by dogs are working to remove silt.

On February 22, eight people were trapped within the tunnel, when a part of it collapsed. Official sources said that the state irrigation minister N.C. Uttam Kumar Reddy can visit the tunnel site on Saturday and meet with the officials.

The Kerala Police’s dog squad also joined the campaign on Friday morning. Such dogs are trained to detect missing people and bodies.

Officials said that dogs (Belgium Malinois breed) in Kerala Police could also detect smell from a depth of 15 feet.

Eight people including engineers and laborers have been stranded in the SLBC project tunnel since 22 February. Experts of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Army, Navy and other agencies are constantly making efforts to evacuate them safely.
