This accident happened during the temple festival, in which about 150 people suffered serious burns. There was a stampede in the temple, but people came out and were saved. The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Kasaragod, Kannur and Mangaluru.
A fire broke out in the pandal late on Monday night during the Kaliyattu festival at the Veerakavu temple near Nileshwaram in Kerala when a firecracker shop suddenly exploded due to sparks. As soon as information about the accident was received, many officials including the Collector and the District Police Chief reached the spot. Police and administration took the devotees to safe places.
District Collector Inbasekhar K has alleged that firecrackers were stocked without permission and safety protocols were not followed. The accident occurred due to negligence and neglect. Action will be taken against the organizers of the festival. An investigation report into the accident will be prepared and action will be taken against the organizers. The injured will also be given compensation.
