Security forces conducted a joint operation on Wednesday in an area of Uri sector of Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. During this time a large amount of weapons and ammunition were recovered. This action was taken by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police on the basis of intelligence. During the search, a hideout of terrorists was found in a hollow cedar tree. The army recovered several weapons from here. Three AK-47 rifles, 11 magazines, 292 bullets, one under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), nine UBGL grenade and two glands were recovered. At present, the police have registered a case and started investigation.
Security forces had received information from intelligence sources that the terrorists had hidden arms crackers in the forests of Baramulla. After this, security forces started a search operation in the area. Around 1:15 pm, the security forces found a suspicious place where weapons were hidden in a hollow cedar tree. The terrorists wrapped this stock in a blanket. Security forces immediately took it into possession and surrounded the entire area and continued the search operation.
Doubt of big conspiracy
With this seizure, it is believed that the terrorists had planned to carry out a major terrorist incident. The presence of AK-47 rifles and grenades suggests that there was a conspiracy to attack security forces or citizens. However, the terrorists’ plan failed due to detection of this hideout on time. The police and the army are now trying to find out which terrorist organization these weapons belonged to and where they were to be used. Initial investigation is raising suspicion that it may be a stock of weapons kept for terrorists who came through infiltration.
Security increased in the area
After this seizure, the police have registered an FIR at Baniyar police station. Further investigation is on. Security has been tightened in the entire Uri sector and surrounding areas to prevent any possible terrorist activity. The search operation by the army and police is still going on and other possible locations are being investigated. Security forces have appealed to the local people to be vigilant and immediately inform about any suspicious activity.
