Ranchi, Sep 12 (IANS) The Central government has filed its reply through an affidavit in the Jharkhand High Court on a public interest litigation regarding the Bangladeshi infiltration in the Santhal Paragana region of Jharkhand.
It has been told that the share of tribal population in the demography of Santhal Pargana division has declined by 16 percent. Earlier the tribal population here was 44 percent, which has come down to 28 percent. The central government has given two main reasons for the decline in tribal population. First, migration and second, conversion.
In its reply, the Central Government has accepted the fact that there has been a change in the demography of the six districts of this division in the past years. It has been reported that the Muslim population in these districts has increased by 20 to 40 percent. The Muslim population has increased the most in Pakur and Sahibganj. The number of Christians has increased by up to six thousand times.
On the court’s direction, the central agency UIDAI has also filed its side in this case, in which it has been stated that it is completely possible to identify a person through Aadhaar number, but it cannot be the basis of anyone’s citizenship. Detailed hearing in this case could not be held in the court on Thursday due to technical reasons. This case has been listed for hearing next Tuesday.
Let us tell you that earlier on September 5, during the hearing on this petition, while presenting the case on behalf of the Central Government, Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta had said that the situation of infiltration of Bangladeshis in Santhal Pargana is alarming. Due to this, the demography of the area is getting affected. Due to this, the decline in the percentage of tribal population is also a serious issue. Infiltrators can enter other states of the country through Jharkhand and affect the population there.
In this case, Bangladeshi infiltration was denied in the reply filed earlier by the Deputy Commissioners of six districts of Santhal Pargana division. On this, the court had commented that if even a single case of infiltration is found, a case of contempt can be filed against the concerned Deputy Commissioner. This PIL regarding Bangladeshi infiltration has been filed in Jharkhand High Court by Jamshedpur resident Daniel Danish.
It has been said in the petition that Bangladeshi intruders are coming to Jharkhand from the border areas of Jharkhand like Jamtara, Pakur, Godda, Sahibganj etc. This is having an adverse effect on the population of these districts. A large number of madrasas are being established in these districts. Matrimonial relations are being made with the local tribals. According to the data presented by their advocate before the High Court citing the national census, the tribal population in the Santhal Pargana region decreased from 44.67 percent in 1951 to 28.11 percent in 2011. A major reason behind this is Bangladeshi infiltration. If this trend is not stopped, the situation will become serious.
