New Delhi, 7 April (IANS). Politics does not seem to be stopped regarding the Waqf law. Opposition parties and Muslim organizations are constantly protesting over the passing of the bill from Parliament and approval from the President. Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Vice President Professor Salim Engineer has compared the ‘Waqf’ law to ‘Black Law’.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Vice President Professor Salim Engineer said in a conversation with IANS, “I believe that Waqf is a black law. Waqf law is biased and hatred, which is working to divide the society. It is especially brought to deprive Muslims of their religious rights. I understand that this law will be opposed in the whole country.
He thanked the support from opposition parties including Uddhav Thackeray against the Waqf law. He said, “I thank those who also voted against this law and raised their voice.”
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, passed in the budget session from both houses of Parliament, got the approval of President Draupadi Murmu on Saturday. With the issue of Gazette notification in this regard, the name of Waqf Act, 1995 has also been changed to Unified Waqf Management, Employment, Efficiency and Development (Expectation) Act, 1995.
Despite opposition from opposition parties and several Muslim organizations, the Lok Sabha approved it in the early hours of April 3 and the Rajya Sabha approved it in the early hours on 4 April. There were 288 votes in the Lok Sabha in support of it and 232 votes in protest, while in the upper house, 128 votes were cast in its favor and 95 votes in protest.
