Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced on Saturday to give a grace of Rs 10 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in Pakistani shelling in the Union Territory.
The Indian armed forces attacked nine terrorist bases across the border on May 7 in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam last month, after which an additional District Development Commissioner and 19 villagers were killed in neighboring country shelling in Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu and Baramulla sectors in the last four days.
Of these 19 people died in Poonch on Wednesday, while two other people died in Uri and Poonch on Friday. Apart from this, five people, including a senior government official lost their lives in Pakistani shelling on Saturday morning.
The Chief Minister said in a post on ‘X’, “I have been deeply saddened by the life of innocent people due to the recent shelling by Pakistan. My government is taking all possible measures to reduce the problems of its people.”
The post shared by the Chief Minister’s Office said that although no compensation can compensate to lose a loved one, nor can the family heal the trauma, but as a sign of support and solidarity, the families of all the dead will be provided with an exemption amount of Rs 10 lakh lakh.
The Chief Minister said, “We are standing with every affected family in this hour of mourning.”
