The protest against it will continue until the Waqf law is withdrawn: Owaisi

‘All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen’ (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi has accused the Center of “targeting” Muslim identity and rights, saying that he will continue to protest against it until the Waqf (Amendment) Act is withdrawn.

Owaisi, while addressing a public meeting organized by the ‘All India Muslim Personal Law Board’ (AIMIM) at AIMIM Headquarters here on Saturday night, emphasized that the law would be opposed in the same way as the agricultural laws have been opposed now.

He said, “You (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) will have to withdraw this law. The way our farmer brothers have shown the way, we will continue to agitate in the same way. Till the law is withdrawn, peaceful protests will continue in the country.

He told the people gathered in the public meeting, “Are you ready for a long democratic fight?” If you are ready, then promise yourself that until this black law is withdrawn, we will continue to protest and will not back down. ”

Owaisi, referring to the triple talaq law, the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled states, alleged that Prime Minister Modi has been attacking the religious identity of Muslims for the last 11 years. He said, “Now he (Modi) wants to snatch our Sharia from us in the name of the Uniform Civil Code.”

The AIMIM leader also claimed that keeping the Dawoodi Bohra community out of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is an attempt to divide and weaken Muslims.

Owaisi objected to a BJP leader’s remarks on the Supreme Court, saying, “When the decisions in Ayodhya and other matters go against the Muslims, we are not angry … even when the verdict goes against our wish, we still accept it. We accept it because we believe in constitutional morality but these people of the Sangh Parivar are anti -constitution…. ”

He alleged that the BJP “is weakening the constitution and threatening religious war.” He said, “Modi ji, who has become a fundamentalist?” You are in power. Your people have become radical. They have become so radical that they are threatening the court that there will be religious war. ‘

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader and MP M.M. Abdullah said on this occasion that party supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has asked him to give a message that the party stands with solidarity not only with Tamil Nadu but also with minorities from all over the country.

AIMPLB President Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani and several other leaders also addressed the gathering. AIMPLB announced to launch a campaign called ‘Waqf Bachao, Save the Constitution’ in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Under this, several activities have been planned including protests, round table discussions, women meetings, human chains, protests, picket demonstrations and public meetings.

AIMPLB said in a release that a sit -in demonstration will be held in Hyderabad on June 1.
