The Congress on Tuesday claimed that the proposed session of the Manipur Assembly was canceled as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could not decide the new Chief Minister.
Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh also questioned why Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla is not calling the assembly session and violating Article 174 (1)?
The seventh session of the 12th Assembly, starting on February 10 in Manipur, was canceled with immediate effect.

Ramesh posted on ‘X’, “Today is the last day of the constitutionally compulsory meeting of the Manipur Assembly session. Article 174 (1) of the Constitution of India provides that there cannot be a difference of more than six months between the final meeting of the assembly session and the first meeting of the next assembly session.
He questioned, “Why are the Governor of Manipur not calling the meeting of the Manipur Assembly for his constitutionally compulsory assembly session and violating Article 174 (1)?”
Ramesh claimed that the session was declared invalid as the BJP could not appoint the Chief Minister’s successor against which the Congress was going to bring a no -confidence motion yesterday, due to which the Chief Minister was forced to resign on Sunday night.
