For Delhi, the India alliance made during the 2024 general elections appears to be short-lived. This is because now Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday ruled out any possibility of an alliance with Congress.
In a post on Twitter, Kejriwal said, “Aam Aadmi Party will contest this election in Delhi on its own strength. There is no possibility of any kind of alliance with Congress.”

The statement comes after reports said that Congress and AAP are in the final stages of talks for a Delhi election alliance. Earlier on December 7, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devendra Yadav had held the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal responsible for the “deteriorating” law and order situation in the national capital.
Devendra Yadav also demanded that Kejriwal should demand the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi in the same way as he had sought the resignation of former CM Sheila Dikshit during the Nirbhaya case. The Delhi Congress president further alleged that women are bearing the brunt of increasing crimes including incidents of gang war, firing, murder, rape, harassment and snatching.
Meanwhile, AAP on Monday released its second list of 20 candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections, which includes the decision to field Sisodia from Jangpura instead of his previous seat of Patparganj. Avadh Ojha has been nominated to contest the elections from Patparganj.
The Arvind Kejriwal-led party has changed the seat of former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. Now he will contest from Jangpura seat. Avadh Ojha has been made the candidate from Sisodia’s old seat Patparganj.
Aam Aadmi Party has canceled the tickets of 17 sitting MLAs in its second list of candidates and has given chance to new faces in their place.
However, three familiar names have been nominated again: Manish Sisodia and Rakhi Birla, both sitting MLAs, and Dipu Chaudhary, who is a former candidate and had lost the last election.
The Congress, which has been in power in Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has performed poorly in the last two assembly elections and has failed to win a single seat. Assembly elections in Delhi are expected to be held in early 2025. In the 2020 assembly elections, AAP won 62 out of 70 seats and BJP won the eighth seat.
