There is a political upheaval in Karnataka these days. There is a tug of war between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar about the chair of power. In the midst of all this, senior Congress leader DK Shivkumar said that if he gets a chance to sit on the chair, he should not let go. Speaking at the Kamegowda Jayanti program organized by Bangalore Advocates Association on Friday (July 11, 2025), he said, “I am watching many lawyers here who are not sitting here and we are not sitting for the chairs. It is not easy. When you get a chance, you should sit and do not let this opportunity go by hand. “
‘Whenever you get a chance, take full advantage’
He further said, “It seems that many of you are renounced by nature. Such a good building and magnificent chairs have been built, whenever you get a chance, take full advantage of it.” The lawyers laughed a lot on Shivkumar’s remarks, but this comment becomes very important in view of the ongoing power struggle within the ruling Congress in Karnataka.
Was there any agreement between Siddaramaiah and DK Shivkumar?
In May 2023, a Congress-led government was formed in Karnataka and since then there have been rumors that Siddaramaiah and DK Shivkumar have signed a two-and-a-half-year-old sitting on the chair of power. The Congress neither denied nor agreed to this alleged agreement. However, on Thursday (July 10, 2025), Siddaramaiah put an end to the rumors by saying that he would complete his term and the Chief Minister’s post is not yet vacant. “The leadership question is not with the high command. It has been resolved. I am getting full support of the Congress high command. If this does not happen, I do not hold my post.”
