New Delhi, September 11, (IANS) There is a war of words between the BJP and the Congress over the statement made by the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on reservation in America.
On one hand, Union Home Minister Amit Shah targeted Rahul Gandhi and said that as long as BJP is there, no one can touch reservation and no one can play with the unity of the country. On the other hand, Congress MP Manikam Tagore defended Rahul Gandhi’s statement.
He said that Rahul Gandhi has always been in favour of unity and equality, while the BJP and its ideological mentors have done the opposite. Rahul Gandhi is currently in America, where he is interacting with members of the Indian community and American leaders.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore wrote on social media platform X, “Those who preach about national interest and reservation should first look at the RSS’s own track record of opposing social justice. Rahul Gandhi has always been in favour of unity and equality, while the BJP and its ideological mentors have done the opposite, dividing the nation and betraying marginalised communities. The country knows who is hindering India’s progress.”
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote in an X post, “It has become a habit of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party to speak anti-national things and stand with forces that break the country. Whether it is supporting the anti-national and anti-reservation agenda of JKNC in Jammu and Kashmir, or speaking anti-India things on foreign forums, Rahul Gandhi has always hurt the security and sentiments of the country. Talking about bringing discrimination from language to language, region to region and religion to religion shows Rahul Gandhi’s divisive thinking.”
He further wrote, “By talking about ending reservation from the country, Rahul Gandhi has once again brought the anti-reservation face of the Congress in front of the country. The thoughts and ideas in the mind come out through some medium or the other. I want to tell Rahul Gandhi that as long as the BJP is there, no one can touch reservation and no one can play with the unity of the country.”
Earlier on Tuesday, at Georgetown University in Washington DC, a student asked him if there was a better way to strengthen institutions at the grassroots level other than caste-based reservation. To this, Rahul Gandhi had said, “We will think about ending reservation when there is fairness in India. In this way, it is a problem.”
