Chandigarh, December 20 (IANS). There is a wave of mourning in political circles due to the demise of former Haryana CM and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) Chief Omprakash Chautala (89). The state government has declared three days of state mourning in view of this tragic incident.
According to the official order issued by the Haryana government, there will be state mourning in the state from 20 to 22 December. One day holiday has been declared in the state on 21st December. Apart from this, there will be no government entertainment program in the state till 20-22 December. The funeral of the former CM will be held with state honors on December 21.
Omprakash Chautala breathed his last at his residence in Gurugram on Friday. He was unwell for the last few days. Many leaders including PM Narendra Modi, State Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, former CM Bhupendra Singh Hooda expressed grief over Chautala’s demise.
PM Modi wrote on social media platform X on Friday, “Deeply saddened by the demise of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala ji.” He remained active in the politics of the state for years and made continuous efforts to carry forward the work of Chaudhary Devi Lal ji. My deepest condolences to his family and supporters in this hour of mourning. ,
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini wrote on Instagram, “The demise of INLD supremo and former Haryana Chief Minister Chaudhary Omprakash Chautala is very sad. My humble tribute to him. He served the state and the society throughout his life. He served the country and the state of Haryana. This is an irreparable loss for politics. It is a prayer to Lord Shri Ram to give place to the departed soul at his feet and strength to the bereaved family to bear this loss.
Apart from these, former Haryana CM and senior Congress leader Bhupendra Singh Hooda, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik, Rajya Sabha MP Kiran Chaudhary and many other leaders have expressed grief over his demise.
Let us tell you that Omprakash Chautala, born on January 1, 1935 in Chautala village of Sirsa, was the Chief Minister of Haryana five times. He became CM for the first time on 2 December 1989 and held this post till 22 May 1990. When the then Chief Minister Banarasi Das Gupta was removed from the post within 60 days, he took oath as the Chief Minister for the second time on 12 July 1990. However, Chautala also had to resign from the post after five days. On 22 April 1991, Chautala took over as CM for the third time. But just two weeks later, the central government imposed President’s rule in the state.
