New Delhi, October 15 (IANS). The country’s top entrepreneurs on Tuesday praised the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that due to his vision, historic changes have been seen in the digital sector.
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the eighth edition of ‘India Mobile Congress’ during the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in the national capital. This is the first time that ITU-WTSA is being organized in the Asia-Pacific region.
Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairman, Bharti Airtel, said the real transformation began in 2014 with PM Modi’s vision of ‘Digital India’, which led to the 4G revolution.
“It provided easy access to smartphones and essential digital services to millions of people in the country, including in rural areas,” he said.
Mittal said India is emerging as a manufacturing hub for telecom equipment due to government initiatives to promote local manufacturing through Production Linked Incentives (PLI).
“We are committed to reducing our dependence on imports. With initiatives like the PLI programme, we are turning India into a manufacturing hub for telecom equipment,” the veteran entrepreneur said.
Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla lauded the many reforms undertaken by the government over the last few years to recognize the importance of digital connectivity and make India an even more connected, empowered and inclusive digital nation.
He said that they are committed to provide maximum support to small businesses by promoting digital transformation, making them future ready. He also stressed on focusing on technologies like 5G, IoT (Internet of Things), AI and cloud services.
