The Trinamool Congress leaders, who accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misappropriating the voter list before next year’s next year’s assembly elections, started a door-to-door campaign for verification of the voter list.
Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim conducted a voter list verification campaign in Chetla area of South Kolkata.
“BJP is trying to manipulate the voter list by bringing fake voters from other states,” Hakim told reporters. Therefore, we are going from house to house to review the voter list with our party workers. ”
Local Trinamool leaders are running a similar campaign in Bhawanipur assembly constituency of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
According to the instructions of Trinamool Congress chief Banerjee, party workers are also conducting verification campaign at other places.
The Trinamool Congress has alleged that many persons from other states have been found registration under the same voter ID card number as real voters in West Bengal.
The party chief addressed the state conference of Trinamool on Thursday and accused the BJP of tampering with the voter list with “support of the Election Commission” by connecting fake voters from other states. The BJP has denied the allegation.
Banerjee alleged that the BJP had adopted a similar strategy in the elections held in Delhi and Maharashtra.
He warned that if necessary steps are not taken to improve the voter list, then his party will stag in front of the Election Commission office.
The Chief Electoral Office (CEO) of West Bengal, however, said that the officials do the work of updating the voter list with the active participation of the booth level agent (BLO) appointed by political parties.
