There was an uproar in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday when opposition parties recently demanded a discussion on the Waqf Act passed by Parliament. After opposition from opposition parties, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was adjourned for 30 minutes.
Opposition parties, including the People’s Democratic Party and the Awami Ittehad Party, had submitted a stay motion to discuss the Waqf Act, which was later rejected by the Chairman under Rule 58 of the House. PDP MLA Waheed Para, who was opposing the decision not to discuss the Act, was thrown out of the assembly premises.
According to Rule 58, no bill under consideration will be discussed in the court. Several organizations and political parties including AIMIM and Congress have filed petitions in the Supreme Court against the implementation of the Waqf Act.
Earlier, about 20 MLAs had prohibited the work adjournment motion demanding a discussion on the Waqf Bill in the Assembly. Waheed Para of PDP, while talking to journalists outside the assembly, described it as ‘unfortunate’, as Jammu and Kashmir is a Muslim dominated state.
Para told reporters, “It is unfortunate that Jammu and Kashmir is a Muslim dominated area; If there is a Muslim Chief Minister in the whole of India, it is in Jammu and Kashmir. 24 crore Muslims from all over the country are watching it.”
He urged all the MLAs to support the proposal brought by the PDP, “There are 60 MLAs here, if even out of 60 they do not support the proposal we have presented against the Waqf Act. I think history will do justice to us forever.”
Describing the Waqf Act against the religious beliefs and sentiments of Muslims, Para targeted Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and said that he gave a grand welcome to Union Minority Minister Kiren Rijiju, who introduced the bill.
He said, “This is an act that has been passed against the feelings, emotions and religious beliefs of Muslims. Our cemeteries, our mosques and more have been claimed, and at the same time, our Chief Minister (Omar Abdullah) gave the red carpet to the same (Union) Minority Minister Kiren Rijiju. Sitting with them who introduced the Bill against Muslims.”
Earlier, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir met Union Minister Rijiju during a visit to Srinagar and posted a picture with him at the Tulip Garden in the city.
Para said to people not to see the dargahs and mosques as real estate or property, but as the feelings of Muslims, “Be it Jama Masjid, Dargah or something, it should not be seen as real estate or property, but it should be seen as a feeling, that it is the identity of every Muslim. The government should not be neutralized; it should not be neutralized; it should not be the dispute of the struggle, and now it should not be a place of struggle. Will grow. “
Meanwhile, Khurshid Ahmed Sheikh, MLA of Awami Ittehad Party MLA and brother of Baramullah, Rashid, also staged a protest in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly demanding a discussion on the Waqf (Amendment Bill).
In the photographs received from the assembly, the AIP MLA is seen shouting slogans of “Maksa case of mere case”, while Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather is urging the MLAs to sit.
