Washington, 21 April (IANS). US Vice President JD Vance, his wife Usha Vance and three children will reach Delhi on a four -day visit to India. Here he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They have left for India from Italy.
According to the information, Air Force 2 is expected to land in New Delhi at 9:30 am. They will also go to Agra and Jaipur. The couple will also be accompanied by sons Ivan (7), Vivek (4) and 2 -year -old daughter Mirabel. Usha Vance is of Indian origin. His family went to America from Andhra Pradesh. At present, it is not known whether the Vance family will meet Indian relatives during their stay.
This will be the Vice President’s first visit to India and it is expected that there may be talks between the two countries on important trade agreements. The Vice President is scheduled to meet the Prime Minister, who will have his second bilateral meeting. The first meeting was held in February during the AI summit in Paris. From there, the Prime Minister went to Washington DC for his first meeting with the US President after returning to the White House.
Vance is the second senior officer of the Trump administration coming to India during this tenure.
For the first time, National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard came to India, who visited in March and also addressed the Raisina Dialogue in addition to meeting the Prime Minister and other officials, which is an annual government -backed meeting of leaders of national security and foreign policy and experts from all over the world.
Vance is the first US Vice President to travel to India in 13 years. This journey is special, as no existing US Vice President has visited India in the last decade. Earlier in 2013, in February 2013, the then Vice President and later became President who came to Biden India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host Vice President Vance at his official residence on 7 Lok Kalyan Marg on Monday evening. In this meeting, along with discussing the Indo-US trade agreement, methods of deepening strategic and economic relations between the two democratic countries will be considered.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S.K. Jaishankar will also be present. Along with Vance, a five -member high -level delegation, including representatives of the Pentagon and State Department, has also come to India.
India’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement, “The journey will give the two countries an opportunity to review the progress of bilateral relations and to take stock of the status of implementation of joint statement issued during the Prime Minister’s visit to the US on 13 February. Both sides will also discuss regional and global issues.”
