Caracas, Sep 3 (IANS) Venezuela has denounced Washington’s seizure of a plane used by its President Nicolas Maduro, calling it a “repeated criminal act”.
According to news agency Xinhua, the US has seized the plane in the Dominican Republic. It has claimed that the purchase of this plane violated US sanctions.
“Venezuela denounces to the international community the criminal behavior that the US authorities have demonstrated by illegally seizing the aircraft used by the President of the Republic, and justifying themselves by citing unilateral and illegal coercive measures (sanctions) imposed around the world. This cannot be classified as anything other than piracy,” Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil said on Telegram on Monday.
Gill said Venezuela reserves the “right to take all legal action to recover the damages the country has suffered, as well as all other damages caused by the criminal policy of unilateral coercive measures.”
The US in February also seized a plane of Venezuelan airline Emtrasur Cargo that landed in Argentina in June 2022 and was then detained for an alleged investigation.
