The Delhi Police has informed the Ministry of Home Affairs about the imposition of posters of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Chanakyapuri area here by an embassy employee of a Western European country. An official gave this information on Tuesday.
The incident came to light on May 29 at around 7.30 am when personnel of Chanakyapuri police station saw two such posters on electric poles near Carmel Convent School and American Embassy School on Malcha Marg.
Chanakyapuri has several embassy and international institutions offices, and is being monitored here.
A senior police officer said, “Beat staff informed senior officials and instructions were issued to remove the poster.”
Subsequently, the police parties started investigation and watched CCTV footage to find out the identity of the responsible person.
“On seeing the footage, a person wearing a blue shirt and black trousers appeared on a bicycle at around 5.30 am,” the official said. He was seen putting posters on an electric pole. Further analysis revealed the investigators that he was going into a flat located on the Sardar Patel Marg. ”
A police team reached the residence and found that the person living there is an employee of the Embassy of a Western European country.
The official said, “The details of the person were noted, but no further action was taken due to diplomatic exemption.”
Given the sensitive nature of the case and the diplomatic status of the person concerned, the Delhi Police decided to pursue the issue.
Police sources said a detailed report was prepared and sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which is expected to be coordinated with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to determine appropriate action.
A source said, “The matter is being settled at the highest level. Senior officials of the New Delhi Range submitted a report to the police headquarters, which was sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs Last week.
He said that the reply is awaited by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Police have said that strict monitoring is going on in Chanakyapuri area to prevent any untoward incident.
Several calls were made and messages were sent to the Delhi Police spokesperson to take feedback in this regard, but no response was received.
