Dr. Farooq Abdullah, President of the National Conference, has reacted sharply regarding the Waqf Amendment Act. He said, “In our understanding this bill is wrong. This bill is against the Constitution.” He also appreciated the decision of the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly not to allow discussion on this issue.
Dr. Abdullah said, “The Speaker has taken a good decision that the issue should not be discussed until the Supreme Court’s decision comes. We will talk on this when the Supreme Court gives a decision.”
He also questioned the role of the opposition and said that the opposition here is protesting only to protest and not to create creative criticism. He said, “This is not a healthy criticism. The opposition’s job is not just to oppose.”
Significantly, there was a strong uproar in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on the issue of Waqf. The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly took a scuffle in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly after the comments made by Aam Aadmi Party MLA Mehraj Malik. After which the proceedings of the House were postponed.
Protests are taking place across the country regarding the Waqf Amendment Act. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “We do not support this law. This law will not apply even in our state.
