Criticizing the Waqf Amendment Bill, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said on Tuesday that the bill is unconstitutional and Articles 14, 25, 26 and 29 of the Indian Constitution is “serious violation”.
Owaisi said that this is not a Waqf bill, but it is a “Waqf ruined bill”. The AIMIM chief questioned the reasons behind the support of the NDA allies Nitish Kumar, Chandrababu Naidu, Chirag Paswan and Jayant Chaudhary to support the Waqf Amendment Bill.
Owaisi told reporters, “This bill is unconstitutional. This Bill is a serious violation of Article 14, Article 25, 26 and 29. It is not a Waqf Bill but a Waqf Barabad Bill. If Chandrababu Naidu, Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan and Jayant Chaudhary will praise it, then they are supporting this with their political reasons but they are supporting it. Will give? If you can’t become a non-Hindu member in the Hindu Endowment Board, why are you making non-Muslims here? “
Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha proceedings were postponed today and there will be a meeting again at 2 pm on Tuesday.
The government is going to introduce the revised Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament this week. Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju targeted the leaders trying to “mislead” the people and said that the Waqf law has been in existence for decades.
Rijiju told the media, “Some people are saying that this Waqf Amendment Bill is unconstitutional. Waqf rules already exist before independence. All these provisions already exist. If the Waqf Act is in existence before independence, how can it be illegal? Innocent Muslims are being misled by saying that the government is being misled by Muslims. False things are very harmful to our society and nation. “
Many opposition parties are opposing the proposed amendments in the Waqf Act. Earlier, Rijiju said that it is everyone’s right to criticize the bill, but it should be solid.
On Monday, Congress MP and party’s communication in -charge General Secretary Jairam Ramesh described the Waqf (Amendment) Bill as a “direct attack on the Constitution” and vowed to oppose the implementation of the bill and demanded that NDA allies Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Janata Dal (United) clarify their stand on the issue.
Jairam Ramesh told ANI, “The Waqf (Amendment) Bill is a direct attack on the Constitution. If they implement it, we will oppose it democratically.”
He claimed that the bill was passed through “bulldozers” through the Joint Parliamentary Committee. He said that there was not intensive discussion on each section in the committee.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, also called the ‘Integrated Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMED) Bill, is aimed to resolve major challenges by implementing the legal system such as digitization, advanced audit, better transparency and legal system to rectify illegal occupation assets.
The Waqf Act 1995, created to regulate Waqf properties, has been criticized for issues such as mismanagement, corruption and encroachment for a long time.
