Wayanad Bypoll: Voting is going to be held on November 13 for the by-election for Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. The entire country’s eyes are on this seat because Congress has made Priyanka Gandhi its candidate here. Congress seems to be falling down on the issue of support to Jamaat-e-Islami before voting in Wayanad. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has launched a scathing attack on Congress and Priyanka Gandhi on this issue.
He said that Congress and UDF candidate Priyanka Gandhi is contesting the elections with the support of Jamaat, whereas we all are fully aware of the ideology of Jamaat. He has sought answers from Congress on the support of Jamaat. Responding to this, Priyanka Gandhi said that elections should be fought on development issues and people’s attention should not be diverted from the issues.
Wayanad by-election is very important for Congress
The issue of Jamaat has become heated in the by-elections being held on Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. The Left Front is making every effort to corner the Congress on this issue. During the recent Lok Sabha elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had won both Wayanad and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seats. Later he decided to retain Rae Bareli seat and resigned from Wayanad seat. That is why by-election is being held on this seat.
This by-election is considered very important for Congress because Priyanka Gandhi has entered the electoral arena for the first time from the party. BJP has placed its bet on Navya Haridas, State General Secretary of Mahila Morcha on this seat. CPI’s Satyan Mokeri has entered the election arena from the Left Front. The CPI is part of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala.
Vijayan surrounded on the support of Jamaat
Kerala Chief Minister and senior CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan is continuously busy campaigning for Mokri. During this, he is making a scathing attack on Priyanka Gandhi. He has alleged that Congress candidate Priyanka Gandhi is contesting the by-election from Wayanad seat with the support of Jamaat-e-Islami. He said that as a party, this organization is providing full support to Priyanka Gandhi.
The Chief Minister of Kerala said that Congress should clarify its stand in this regard. He said that the secular mask of Congress has been completely exposed in the Wayanad by-election.
Answers to questions sought from Congress
He asked that Congress should answer what it wants to prove by getting the support of Jamaat. Congress should also clarify whether the ideology of that organization matches with democratic values? He said that everyone is fully aware about the ideology of Jamaat. In such a situation, Congress should answer this question.
He said that Jamaat has been trying to promote communalism for a long time. This organization does not believe in democracy and has been ignoring the governance system of the country. Congress is contesting the by-elections in Wayanad with the help of such an organization.
Priyanka Gandhi hit back
Priyanka Gandhi has hit back at the allegations made by the Chief Minister of Kerala. He said that efforts are being made to divert public attention from the core issues. He said that real issues and developments should be discussed during elections. Attempts to divert attention from the issues will never succeed. He asked the Chief Minister of Kerala, what work have you done for the development of Wayanad?
Priyanka said that issues affecting people should be discussed during elections. We should not divert people’s attention from issues like development, unemployment and inflation. Priyanka Gandhi also attacked BJP. He said that BJP has completely lost contact with the people.
Priyanka did not respond to Jamaat’s support
During the elections being held on Wayanad seat, the issue of Jamaat-e-Islami has become heated because this organization has been advocating Islamic law and Shariat. Jamaat has been advocating only Muslim interests. The organization has been promoting religious division and fundamentalism in the society.
Along with this, this organization has also been accused of taking financial help from abroad. Priyanka Gandhi did not give any direct answer to the question of Kerala Chief Minister supporting Jamaat. This issue was raised even when Rahul Gandhi was contesting the elections, but even at that time no direct answer was given by the Congress.
