The name of the NDA candidate for the Vice Presidential election to be held on 9 September is likely to be announced on Sunday evening. The meeting of the Parliamentary Board, the highest decision -making organization of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been called at the party’s national headquarters on Sunday evening. The meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will include BJP President JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and other members of the board.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President JP Nadda were authorized for the Vice Presidential candidate in a meeting of NDA leaders held in Parliament House on 7 August. Since then, the sequence of meetings of top BJP leaders continues. The names of potential candidates are being discussed. On Friday night, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah met BJP President JP Nadda.
Top BJP sources have indicated that the next Vice President will be from the BJP and there will be a person who is firmly associated with the ideology of the party and the RSS. Along with this, an attempt will also be made to give a regional and social message. Currently, there is a tribal president who is from eastern India. The Prime Minister is an OBC that represents both West and North. The Lok Sabha Speaker is a Vaishya who is from Rajasthan. In such a situation, many contenders have come out who can be the NDA candidates for the post of Vice President.
Let us tell you that the circumstances in which Jagdeep Dhankhar was removed has also alerted the BJP leadership. NDTV has already explained in detail why Dhankhar had to resign. The BJP does not want such a gap of mistrust to be born again as the Vice President may not have much powers, but as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, he has the right to take all the decisions related to the proceedings of the Upper House. A major reason behind the removal of Dhankhar is that he started taking arbitrary decisions by keeping the government in the dark. The BJP leadership does not want such a situation arise again. Dhankhar came to the BJP through the Janata Party and the Congress. His ideological background was different and also came in the way of making harmony. The main reason behind making him President was to give a message to the Jats. But now the party wants to move forward carefully.
NDA’s power display
A great power display before the Vice President’s election.
There will be power demonstration at the time of nomination of the NDA candidate for the Vice Presidential election.
All the Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of NDA will be present at the time of nomination.
Top leaders of major coalition parties, including Union ministers, will be present.
The message of unity of NDA will be given.
Separate sets of nomination papers will be prepared.
In these, leaders of BJP allies will also be made proposers and supporters.
In the last one month, many governors and Lieutenant Governors have met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. That is why there is a discussion whether any of them can be made the candidate for the post of Vice President. Many names are being discussed in the corridors of power. These include Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot, Sikkim Governor Om Mathur, Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. Among them, the term of Acharya Devvrat and Manoj Sinha has been completed. Some other names are also being considered, in which the names of RSS thinker Seshadri Chari are also being taken prominently, which have played a big role in the BJP organization. The name of the current Deputy Chairman Harivansh is also being taken in view of the Bihar elections, although the BJP leaders have made it clear that the next Deputy Chairman will not be from the allies but from the BJP. Apart from these, the possibility of any shocking name can be denied.
Meanwhile, the NDA has also started working on the strategy of casting more and more votes in favor of its candidate. Just before the Vice Presidential election, a three -day workshop is being organized for all MPs at Parliament House in Delhi. In this, MPs will also be trained to cast their votes. Significantly, members of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha vote in the Vice Presidential elections. The goal of the NDA will be to ensure maximum votes for its candidate. Jagdeep Dhankhar was elected by record votes in the last Vice Presidential election.
The government’s strategists will also contact the opposition and try to build a consensus on the name of their candidate. However, this is just a formality because the opposition has made it clear that it will field its candidate. The Vice Presidential election is the first major opportunity to tested the power testing in the third term of the Modi government and the opposition does not want to let it go by hand. So far, the NDA has sometimes received support from parties like BJD, YSRCP, BRS, TMC in the President and Vice Presidential elections. But the situation is now opposite.
The BJD, who has lost power to the BJP in Odisha, is no longer in the mood to support in any way. The BJP has not got a majority on its own this time and is primarily dependent on the support of TDP and JDU. In such a situation, the opposition would like to give a tough competition to the NDA. The opposition seems to be united on the voter list issue and BJD and Aam Aadmi Party are also seen with the Congress on this issue. In the Vice Presidential elections, the opposition would like to maintain this unity.
