When Congress is not in power, it becomes a well-wisher of SC-ST for votes: Mayawati

शिक्षक भर्ती मामले पर मायावती ने कहा, सरकार अपना ईमानदार रूख अपनाए

Lucknow, September 11 (IANS). Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has been continuously attacking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after his statement on the issue of reservation in the US. Mayawati says that when the Congress is not in power, it becomes a well-wisher of the neglected SC, ST and OBC for their votes. When it is in power, it works against them.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati said on the social media platform X, “Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s clarification that he is not against reservation is clearly a misleading false statement. During his 10-year tenure in the Centre before the BJP came to power, he along with the SP did not let the SC/ST reservation bill in promotions get passed.”

He further said, “Their talk of increasing the reservation limit in the country from 50 percent is also a hoax, because if their intentions were clear in this matter, then this work would have definitely been done in the previous Congress governments. Congress neither implemented OBC reservation nor implemented SC/ST reservation properly.”

Apart from this, Mayawati said, “It is clear from this that when Congress is not in power, it talks big about the interest and welfare of these neglected SC/ST/OBC sections for the sake of their votes, but when it is in power, it continuously works against their interests. These people should be aware of this conspiracy of theirs.”

It is worth noting that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi clarified his statement on reservation. He said that we are going to increase the reservation beyond 50 percent. I have been saying this repeatedly and have never been against reservation. Yesterday someone misrepresented my statement that I am against reservation. But let me make it clear that I am not against reservation.
