When Ratan Tata called Tata Motors' entry into Gujarat a 'homecoming'

New Delhi, October 10 (IANS). Ratan Tata, the iconic Indian businessman who led the Tata Group from 1991 to 2012, died late on Wednesday night. Ratan Tata was 86 years old.

Under his visionary leadership the Tata Group expanded globally with strategic acquisitions such as Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover and Corus and witnessed tremendous growth in sectors such as IT, Telecom. After retirement in 2012, Ratan Tata continued his social responsibilities till his last moments. During this time he encouraged many new startups and educational institutions.

In such a situation, an incident of Ratan Tata attending the 2007 Vibrant Gujarat Investors Summit as the chief guest has been shared on the social media handle X named Modi Archive, which is going viral.

This post states that Ratan Tata was announced as the chief guest at the 2007 Vibrant Gujarat Investors Summit. There he expressed his sentiment among the attendees by saying, “This is the right time to invest in Gujarat. If you have not yet invested in Gujarat, you are a fool, because it is the fastest growing Is the state.”

Exactly a year later, Tata acted on his advice. The much-awaited launch of Tata Motors’ Nano, the world’s most affordable car, was hanging in the balance. The project in Singur, West Bengal was facing tough challenges, with Tata Motors taking the difficult decision to pull out of West Bengal, leaving the future of the Nano in limbo.

As soon as the announcement of leaving Singur was made, many states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra came forward with their proposals. But, no one could match the swift and brilliant offer of the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Understanding the benefits and economic importance of hosting Tata, CM Modi immediately offered land to the company at better rates in Sanand, just 20 km from Ahmedabad. In addition, the Government of Gujarat gave loans on favorable terms. What happened next, within just 96 hours, all the administrative processes were completed and the deal was sealed.

On Tata Motors entering the state, Ratan Tata had then said, “I thank Gujarat for making me my home so soon.”

On 7 October 2008, Tata Motors officially announced the relocation of its Nano plant to Gujarat. At the same time, Ratan Tata had described this moment as “homecoming” in front of the then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi.

Ratan Tata, speaking in Gujarati, said, “Aapde ahiya na chhiye, ane apde ahiya pacha aavya.” (We belong here and we’re back.)

When the Tata Nano project ran into trouble in Singur, West Bengal, the stakes on the project were huge – not just for Tata Motors, but for the entire country. It was unimaginable for Narendra Modi to shift this project to another country. It was not just a matter of Gujarat’s development or his personal ambition, but of national pride.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi had then said, “For me, it was important that this project, for which many countries were competing, stays in India. It does not matter in which state it stays, as long as it is in India.” Is.”
