Washington, 18 March (IANS). US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation for more than an hour and the White House stated that “the conversation is going well.” The call details will be released later.
The American plan is expected to be discussed between the two leaders between Russia and Ukraine for a 30 -day ceasefire in the war.
Kiev has already approved the plan.
Putin has theoretically supported this, but some conditions are laid, mainly, Ukraine will not use the ceasefire to raise or train soldiers or receive military assistance.
President Trump’s Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino wrote on ‘X’, “What is happening now – President Trump is currently talking to EDT with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Oval Office at 10 am.”
“The conversation is going well, and still continues.”
He posted an update after 40 minutes, “Update: Call is still on …”
President Trump late Sunday night from his Mar-e-Lago Niwas in Florida, Washington D.C. Announced his plan to call while going back.
The call has been made last week after a conversation between Trump’s West Asia Envoy Steve Witchoff and President Putin in Moscow.
Vitkoff has said that the meeting lasted for three to four hours.
The meeting was held soon after the meeting of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor (NSA) Mike Waltz with Ukrainian officials in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Before Tuesday’s call, in the first term of Trump administration, former NSA H.R. McMaster told Fox News that Putin’s strategy “Trump and America are forced to accept a deal that Ukrainians are unacceptable and then America is to try to turn not only against Ukraine but also against Europe”.
This call is an important step in President Trump’s efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, which he says that if he had been in office at that time, it would never have happened.
