Shimla, Sep 26 (IANS) Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has reacted to the order of Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh in the Himachal Pradesh government to install identity cards at all restaurants and dhabas.
He said, “Our government had started working on what Vikramaditya Singh has said a long time ago. When our party tried to make rules in this regard while in power, many people had raised questions.”
He said, “We had answered all the questions. We had said that this rule has become necessary now because in every street of Himachal Pradesh, people are involved in street vending by hiding their identity. Himachal is such a state where if a person comes from outside, he will be easily identified, he will not be able to hide his identity. If someone is a non-Himachali and he is working here, then I want to make it clear that we have no objection to this, but our direct question is what are the compulsions that these people are hiding their identity.”
He said, “We ourselves had taken the initiative that all the shopkeepers working in Himachal should be registered and verified so that their identity can be revealed. We had formally started the whole process by making a policy in this regard, which Vikramaditya Singh is now referring to.”
Let us tell you that Vikramaditya Singh had given a statement in this regard on Wednesday. In this, he had talked about making a policy and committee for street vendors.
He had also posted on his Facebook account. In which he had said, “In Himachal also, the ID of the owner will be put on every restaurant and fast food cart. In this regard, orders were issued after the Urban Development and Municipal Corporation meeting concluded on Tuesday.”
He had said, “Urban Development and Municipal Corporation had a meeting in this regard. In the meeting, we have decided that all the street vendors should put IDs outside their shops. This step has been taken keeping in mind health and cleanliness.”
