The CM threatened to break all contracts with the state Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), from where many districts have been submerged due to the release of 5 lakh cusecs of water. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has hit back at this. Let’s know what is the whole matter?
CM Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday accusing the Damodar Valley Corporation of releasing 5 lakh cusecs of water and causing floods in the state. She wrote in her letter that the water released from DVC has caused terrible floods in East Bardhaman, West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Bankura, Howrah, Hooghly, East Medinipur and West Medinipur districts of South Bengal, causing trouble to the people
Biggest flood since 2009: CM
The CM claimed that the lower Damodar and surrounding areas of West Bengal have witnessed the worst floods since 2009, affecting the lives of nearly 50 lakh people living in an area of more than 1,000 sq km. He blamed the DVC for the floods and called it a man-made flood. The CM warned that the state government will completely disassociate itself from the DVC and withdraw its partnership.

On this, Leader of Opposition in Bengal Suvendu Adhikari hit back at Mamata Banerjee and said that if CM Mamata Banerjee breaks ties with DVC, then power supply of 8 districts will be disrupted. Doesn’t she realize that the power plants run by DVC supply electricity to a large part of South Bengal?
