Opposition leaders have been continuously attacking the state government since the collapse of Shivaji’s statue in Siddhadurg. Whereas immediately after this incident, the government came into action and immediately registered an FIR against the sculptor and the people responsible for the audit.
Not only this, the state government formed an inquiry committee and apologized for the incident and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also announced to build a new statue at the same place. The actions of these leaders are being described as an attempt to create a Bangladesh-like situation in Maharashtra. They are accused of betraying the legacy of Shivaji Maharaj for political gain. Sharad Pawar is especially criticized for creating a rift between Brahmins and non-Brahmins for political gain.

These opposition leaders did not visit the statue before it fell, but gathered in Rajkot after the incident. Reportedly, they also misbehaved with MP Narayan Rane and his workers while waving party flags at the fort. This behaviour was seen as a political strategy to garner support and create conflict between different communities.
