1 crore 67 lakh families of the state will benefit
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made an important announcement on his official X handle. He said, “We have always been trying to provide electricity at cheap rates. Now we have decided that from 1 August 2025 i.e. July bill, all domestic consumers of the state will get electricity up to 125 units free. This will benefit 1 crore 67 lakh families of the state. Along with this, solar power plants will be set up on the roofs of all these families or in the nearest public places in the next three years.
The CM further said, “The state government will bear the entire cost of setting up a solar power plant for the poor families under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana. The government will also assist the rest. This decision will not cost domestic consumers up to 125 units and will provide solar energy up to 10 thousand MW in the state in the next three years.
Nitish government’s attention on solar energy
This new decision of Nitish government will not only give relief in electricity bill, but is also a big step towards making Bihar self -sufficient in the field of solar energy. The government aims to produce 10,000 MW solar energy in the next 3 years. Under the cottage Jyoti Yojana, the state government will bear the entire cost of setting up solar power plants to poor families, while other families will also be given help. This step will not only save electricity, but will also benefit the environment.
Will the free power scheme affect elections?
Assembly elections are to be held in Bihar at the end of 2025, and experts believe that this free electricity scheme can give a big political advantage for Nitish Kumar’s party JDU and his alliance NDA. In a state like Bihar, where electricity bills cost a lot for many families, 125 units of free electricity facility can attract voters from both rural and urban areas. Especially the poor and middle class families will benefit from this scheme, which can create an atmosphere in favor of Nitish government.
