Four members of a family, including an 11-month-old infant, were killed on Thursday in Chhattisgarh’s Balodabazar-Bhatapara district on suspicion of witchcraft. Giving information about this, the police said that in the murder case, the police have detained three suspects from the village – a man and his two sons and are interrogating them.
Police officials said the incident took place at around 6 pm in Chharched village under Kasdol police station area. The deceased have been identified as Chaitram Kaivartya (47), his sisters – Jamuna (28) and Yashoda (30) and Jamuna’s 11-month-old son Yash. Officials said police have detained Ramnath Patle and his two sons in the case and their interrogation is ongoing.
Villagers told the police that Patle’s daughter had been ill for some time and her family members suspected that her illness was the result of witchcraft practiced by Chaitram’s mother.
Officials said that according to the information received, the three accused entered Chaitram’s house on Thursday evening and attacked his family members with sharp weapons and hammer, killing all four on the spot.
Police said that Chaitram’s mother was not at home during the attack and had gone somewhere with her other son. He said that police have registered a case and are investigating.
