Bulldozers started their work in Chandola Lake area of Ahmedabad.
Ahmedabad: After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, action has started against Bangladeshi citizens living illegally in Gujarat on the instructions of the central government. From this morning, the administration has started running bulldozers on illegal colonies in Chandola Lake area of Ahmedabad. In this big campaign, the district administration has deployed 100 trucks, 50 bulldozers and 3000 policemen. Illegal constructions spread over the 1.25 lakh square meter area of Chandola Lake are being demolished one by one.
6500 illegal Bangladeshi citizens in custody
The Gujarat Police has detained more than 6500 illegal Bangladeshi citizens in the last few days, of which 890 people from Ahmedabad. The purpose of this action going on in Chandola Lake area is to remove illegal occupations and tighten the intruders. The area had been a stronghold of illegal Bangladeshi migrants for a long time, where a network of human trafficking and forged documents was spread. Illegal occupation started in Chandola Lake in the 1970s-80s, when a large number of migrant settlements were established here.
The administration has taken strict action.
Illegal occupation raises between 2010-2024
In 2002, an NGO established a township named Sattasat Nagar in the region. Illegal occupation rose between 2010 and 2024. People of the Muslim community made large -scale illegal constructions on the land of the lake, including the number of illegal Bangladeshi citizens. According to the administration, Chandola Lake area had become the center of illegal occupations as well as a network of human trafficking and forged documents. For this reason, this massive action has been taken. Those detained during the search operation in Ahmedabad continue to be questioned.
