Former Rajasthan minister Sundarlal died after a prolonged illness on Thursday night at around 2:40 pm. He was 92 years old. Sundarlal breathed his last at SMS Hospital in Jaipur.

Former Rajasthan minister Sundarlal died after a long illness on Thursday night at around 2:40 am. He was 92 years old. Sundarlal breathed his last at SMS Hospital in Jaipur. He was admitted to the hospital since August 15. He has left behind a full family of six sons and three daughters.
His last rites were performed on Friday in his native village Kalwa. His sons lit the funeral pyre. On this occasion, on behalf of the state government, Minister Sumit Godara, District Collector Ramavatar Meena, District Superintendent of Police Sharad Chaudhary along with former minister Rajendra Rathore, former MP Santosh Ahlawat, former MLA Shubkaran Chaudhary and a large number of common people attended his last rites.
Late Sundarlal was born on 22 August 1933 in Kalwa village of Buhana tehsil of Jhunjhunu district. Former minister Sundarlal celebrated his 92nd birthday on 22 August. He contested assembly elections 10 times, in which he was elected MLA 7 times while he faced defeat 3 times. He was elected MLA from Surajgarh seat 5 times and Pilani seat 2 times. He was also the Minister of State for Energy in Bhairon Singh Shekhawat’s government in 1998.
Before that he was Parliamentary Secretary in Haridev Joshi government of Congress and in Vasundhara Raje government he was given the status of Cabinet Minister by making him Chairman of Scheduled Caste Commission twice. He was elected MLA from Surajgarh for the first time in 1972 on Congress ticket. Sundarlal became MLA 7 times in total in which he won 2 times from Congress, 2 times as an Independent and 3 times from BJP. He was also Vice President of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee and Jhunjhunu District President of BJP.
Sundarlal was considered a leader with mass base in Shekhawati. He was the only leader from the region who was elected MLA from both Congress and BJP. The credit for strengthening BJP in Jhunjhunu district, which was considered a stronghold of Congress, goes to Sundarlal.
