The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday conducted raids in Kolkata and neighbouring districts in connection with financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital in 2021. The ED conducted searches at multiple locations, including the house of arrested former principal of the hospital Sandip Ghosh. ED investigators set out in four groups early in the morning and one team reached Ghosh’s plush house in Beliaghata in east Kolkata, where officials had to wait for hours before being allowed entry. The ED also searched the house of his close associate Kaushik Nag, who lives near arrested accused salesman Biplab Sinha in Salkia in Howrah, and Ghosh’s close associate Prasun Chatterjee in Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas.
According to the report, after several rounds of interrogation of Sandeep Ghosh and other suspects, information was received about a luxurious bungalow. There are several hundred bighas of vacant land in Narayanpur Mouza of Ghutiari Sharif in South 24 Parganas district, in the middle of which this bungalow has been built. This green colored 2-storey bungalow of Sandeep Ghosh has fueled the investigation of the financial scam in RG Kar Hospital. The name of this property is ‘Sangita Sandeep Villa’. Local people claimed that this luxurious house belongs to Ghosh and they have seen him going there with his wife and family. It is being told that Sandeep Ghosh has named the bungalow after his and his wife’s name Sangeeta Ghosh.
Financial scam case in RG Kar Hospital
The ED is probing the money trail in the alleged financial scam at RG Kar Hospital after the Calcutta High Court asked the CBI to probe the issue following a plea by former hospital superintendent Akhtar Ali. The ED has filed an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against Sandip Ghosh on the basis of an FIR in criminal cases. The Calcutta HC on August 23 ordered transfer of the probe into the financial scam at the government hospital from the state-formed Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the CBI. Ghosh was arrested by the CBI’s anti-corruption unit on Monday night. The next day, the special court sent him to 8-day custody of the investigating agency.
After all how did this whole case come to light
The CBI arrested Sandip Ghosh, Sinha and two others in connection with the case on September 2. Two others currently in CBI custody are Ghosh’s bodyguard Afsar Ali and Suman Hazra, a private salesman like Sinha. The CBI has not yet arrested anyone in another case of the rape and murder of a 31-year-old woman doctor at her workplace at RG Kar Hospital on August 9. The high court on August 14 directed the federal agency to investigate the rape and murder, transferring the case from the Kolkata Police, which had arrested a suspect linked to the police, Sanjoy Roy.
