Monsoon is raining like a havoc in Himachal Pradesh. It has been raining in various parts of the state since Wednesday night. Meteorological Center Shimla has issued a yellow alert of heavy rain, thunder and lightning in the plains and mid-mountain areas of the state on Thursday. Along with this, a warning has been issued of sudden flood in half of Himachal in the next 24 hours i.e. till 5:30 pm on Friday.
The Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of flash floods in six districts of the state, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur. The weather is likely to remain bad across the state till September 4. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain on September 3.
Life in the capital Shimla has been affected due to heavy rainfall. Private property has been damaged due to the fall of about half a dozen trees in the city. A government office building near the State Secretariat in Chhota Shimla area was damaged due to the falling of a tree. A two-storey building collapsed due to the collapse of the road at a place called Machhi Wali Koti near the US Club. Many houses adjacent to the road have come under threat.
The Shimla-Bilaspur National Highway connecting Shimla to lower Himachal was blocked late Wednesday night due to debris and trees falling from a hill near Chakkar. The administration restored traffic on the highway with the help of JCB and machinery. The Shimla-Baluganj road has been closed for the last one week due to landslides.
Shimla’s Chaupal has the highest rainfall, Kukumseri is the coldest
According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall of 40 mm was recorded in Chaupal of Shimla district from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning. 20 mm rainfall was recorded in Dhaula Kuan, 19 in Nahan, 15 in Paonta Sahib, 12 in Bharwin and 11 mm in Sarahan. In Tabo and Reckong Peo of Kinnaur, storm blew at a speed of 64 and 48 kmph respectively. Kukumseri was the coldest place, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 9.5 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature was recorded at 13 degrees in Dalhousie, 16.2 degrees in Manali, 16.6 degrees in Shimla and 18.1 degrees Celsius in Kasauli.
