The possible alliance of Congress and Aam Aadmi Party for Haryana assembly elections has hit a roadblock. According to sources, Aam Aadmi Party is planning to contest 50 seats in the state. Just before the Congress’ central election committee meeting, AAP sources claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) may release its first list of candidates on Sunday. “The alliance talks in Haryana are on the verge of collapse and AAP is planning to contest 50 of the 90 assembly seats in the state on its own,” AAP sources claimed. Earlier, party insiders had said that AAP is demanding 10 assembly seats in Haryana while Congress is offering five to seven seats.
Aam Aadmi Party and Congress are part of the India Alliance formed at the national level. Both the parties contested the Lok Sabha elections together in Haryana, Delhi and Gujarat. However, it was decided earlier that this alliance will remain only for the Lok Sabha elections, while in the assembly elections the parties of India Alliance will contest separately, but first Congress and National Conference formed an alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, then talks were going on between AAP and Congress for an alliance in Haryana. In the Lok Sabha elections, AAP was given the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat in Haryana. Haryana state president Sushil Gupta contested from Kurukshetra and lost to Naveen Jindal of the BJP.
AAP sources claimed that several disgruntled leaders from BJP and Congress are set to join the party in Haryana. The state is scheduled to vote on October 5. Meanwhile, ahead of the Haryana assembly elections, a crucial meeting of the Congress party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) was held at the AICC headquarters in Delhi on Friday. The meeting was chaired by Indian National Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal. Senior party leaders including Ajay Maken, Salman Khurshid, Manickam Tagore and other Haryana Congress leaders were also present in the meeting.
